Director’s bio:

Cristi Puiu is the writer and the director known for the award-winning films: Stuff and Dough (2001), The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005), Aurora (2010), Sieranevada (2016) and Malmkrog (2020). He is considered the initiator of the Romanian New Wave and one of the most significant filmmakers today. He was born on April 3rd, 1967 and he lives in Bucharest, Romania. Cristi Puiu studied arts and painting at the National School of Visual Arts of Geneva from 1992 but after the first year he switched to cinema studies up until 1996. During his studies, he directed his first short-feature film entitled Before Breakfast which was awarded at the Locarno Film Festival in 1995. Without quitting painting and visual arts, Cristi Puiu focused on cinema and he is now a scriptwriter, director and producer with his company Mandragora.
